Jhabua Power Ltd (JPL) has achieved 9.5 million safe man-hours and counting. At JPL, the health and safety of its employees and its employed workers are of primary concern. The ultimate aim is to have no incidents that could potentially harm the people or put the plant at risk. To this end, JPL's management gives utmost importance to providing a safe working environment and creating safety awareness among its employees and business associates. The company takes all steps which are reasonably practicable to ensure optimal working conditions.

• Generation of 'clean power' and 'accident-free power' by using state-of-the-art technology, cleaner fuel, world-class operation & maintenance practices and excellent housekeeping.
• Developing safety awareness among its employees /business associates, their family members and local villagers through various means like training & awareness programmes and road shows.
• Pre-employment and post-employment Health check-ups of JPL employees, as well as business associates, are conducted.
• Using systems approach by adopting and implementing an Integrated Management System (IMS) consisting of ISO-14001:2015 for Environment Management System, ISO 9001-2015 for Quality Management System, ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management System & ISO 50001: 2018 for Energy Management System.
• Formation of Health & Safety Committees comprising of management & workers at plant to help monitor and advise on occupational health and safety programmes.
• Implementation of systems for regular plant inspections and review with Head of Plant. Internal safety audits by safety officers of JPL and Cross Function Team of the Plant. Standing meeting of Top Management is also conducted once in a week at surprise location with safety inspection of the area. External audits by reputed organizations are also carried out annually at the plant. Their recommendations are regularly reviewed and duly complied with.
• Conductance of Acrophobia (Fear of Height) test before engaging the workers for work at height in presence of Occupational Health Doctor and Safety Officer. Height Work permit and height check list are implemented to ensure safety of workers while working at heights.
• Implementation of Hot Work permit and Hot Work check list to ensure safety of workers while working on Hot Works.
• Implementation of Confined Space permit and Confined Space Work check list to ensure safety of workers while working in confined space along with entry sheet.
• Implementation of Excavation Work permit and Excavation Work check list to ensure safety of workers while doing the excavation work.
• Strict compliance to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) system for isolation of all type of emergencies (i.e. electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam etc.) and LOTO check list to ensure safety of workers while working on any energized equipment.
• Deployment of adequate numbers of qualified safety officers at the plant as per statutory requirements (i.e. Factories Act 1948, as per "Notification Under M.P./C.G. Factory Rule 1962, Rule No. 72A (Notification No. 4(a)-1-88-XVI-b, dated 21.02.1989), CEA Regulation 2020 Gas Cylinders Rule etc.) Further, for strict compliance and enforcement of safety norms and practices by business associates, safety clauses are included in the General Conditions of Contract.
• Posting of adequate numbers of qualified Occupational Health doctors and medical stops at the plant as per statutory regulations to handle the emergencies.
• Implementation of elaborate monitoring mechanism for all safety incidents across all operations. To mitigate on-site emergencies at the plant, effective engineering controls are provided to indicate and handle emergency situations. Regular mock drills are conducted as per statutory requirements to check the preparedness of the system and observations thereof are complied with.
• Creation of effective awareness among all the workers & associates to keep the workplace free from potential physical and chemical hazards and to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, rules and regulations. Through signage & displays, employees are reminded about importance of PPE and ways to avoid slips, trips, and falls. Use of colour codes, posters, labels and/or signs is implemented to warn employees of potential hazards. Additionally, OSHA posters are placed at the work and at recreational areas to broadcast important safety information, updates, and messages.
• Imparting of proper training to all the workers. All the workers take safety oath every month & there is also recognition of "best safety conscious employees" on 1st day of every month.
• Ensuring that the employees/workers properly maintain their Safety Equipment at all-time. Everyone is made aware of proper handling and storage of hazardous materials, PTW, lock-out / tag-out, machine guarding and good housekeeping measures. The process is further monitored through safety audit, inspection of all hand tools, use of PPEs etc.
• Making safety fun. i.e. While safety is no game, JPL's management realizes that one way to help incorporate safety into company culture is to make learning about safety fun. Workplace signage are used to create safety-themed trivia, quizzes, and videos of safety do's and don'ts. Friendly competitions are conducted at plant such as - Housekeeping & safety training cum quiz, Safety Posters, Safety Slogans, Safety poem, safety play, safety model etc. Winners are duly rewarded so that recognition works as a motivating factor to promote safety.
